Get my internet safety expertise in a virtual coaching session. Imagine having a personalized chat with a resourceful, Tech-Savvy, Child-Whisperer on call for you. Sounds incredible, right?
Parenting in the digital age is being pushed front and center as parents around the world are grappling with finding balance and raising responsible children who can use technology safely.
You may be feeling frustrated and a wee bit anxious with all the extra online activities available to your family. You are the parent of a digital child and you want to feel more at ease regarding their activities. And while you don’t know what the answer to your problems is just yet … you certainly know what the answer ISN’T.
It’s not instigating a full-on tech shutdown, where your child will never, ever, see or touch a screen again. After all, it is pretty difficult to teach a child to drive safely, if they never touch a car.
It’s not throwing in the towel and letting your child stay online, play games, chat on social media whenever they want, whomever they want and at whatever time they want. You want to find a way to provide guidance, as you know that your little people do not yet have the maturity, resilience, social and emotional skills to be able navigate ALL online situations on their own.
You KNOW you need support to explain (as best as you can) online safety and screen balance, and allow your child to surf the net and use technology responsibly.
You BELIEVE that technology can create opportunities, but you want to keep those risks down to a bare minimum.
And above all, you want to end those feelings of digital dinosaur incompetence where you just don't know if you will ever get it.
. . . Have access to an online safety expert who speaks to parents and children around the world, consults for governments, pops-up on France 24 News, publishes regularly AND can explain the difference between Minecraft and Fortnite as well as Snapchat and TikTok.
. . . Dive deep into your digital family troubles for a day and have a Digital Super Nanny peeking over your shoulder and whispering tried-and-true solutions in your ear.
. . . Get just the right amount of support for you to feel confident in your digital parenting skills, find balance for your household, discover online opportunities while reducing risk.
Well, I have some good news for you, parent buddy of mine. Drum roll, please.
It’s also okay if you’re not sure what you want to talk about. Sometimes we just know that things are off somehow, but can’t really tell why, right? That is exactly where I come in.
"I'm already a member in your free, private Digital Parenting Community on Facebook and you seem pretty available to me." Sure, I definitely support the community members with their questions, but this is YOUR chance to be one-on-one with me, asking questions about YOUR situation, YOUR family, YOUR dream digital family scenario, etc.
"Well, I think you are rather nice, but do we really have to spend the entire 2 hours speaking together in a Virtual 1:1 Session?" Nope, and the idea is NOT to speak 2 hours, but I will be AVAILABLE, ON-CALL for 2 hours, so you can just pop me over a question whenever you feel like it, if you feel like it. The idea is to reduce the "pressure" off of a hourly coaching call and to let you really pick my brain, try out some strategies and implement real actions.
"I'm not all that ANXIOUS about my kids' online use and I think we're managing okay." Awesome. I think that you and your family are on the right track and if you want me to just spot-check some issues in your day (privacy settings, shift from passive watching to creative, interactive, educational content, etc., or just confirm that you are a Digital Parenting Dynamo), well, we can do that too.
Voxer is a walkie-talkie app that allows us to exchange voice and text messages. (Voxer is a bit like WhatsApp or Messenger but simplified.) We'll chat back and forth to get you moving towards your ideal digital family style. If you prefer a video chat, then the Virtual 1:1 Intensive via Zoom or Skype is for you.
You don’t need to free your calendar for this. A Virtual 1:1 is very family-friendly.
You just need to make sure you have enough time between your day activities to listen and reply to messages - as well as the mental space to think about what you want for your digital family.
If you don’t have a Voxer account, you’ll create one - it’s free. Messenger is also an option.
We’ll add each other on Voxer (or Messenger, if you prefer) and you can send me a message in advance to tell me more about what’s troubling you. This way, we can jump right in when your day starts.
Don’t worry - this isn’t a 2-hour continuous chat, and you’re not expected to sit by your phone.
We’ll be exchanging messages throughout the day at a steady yet relaxed pace. The best thing about a Virtual 1:1 is that we have space in between messages to think strategy and take action.
